One of my favorite weeks of the year is celebrating our graduates and all that they and their families and educators have accomplished. I was honored to participate in the six graduation ceremonies we had this week, and look forward to one more next Friday. Congratulations again to the Class of 2022!  You and your families have certainly demonstrated great determination and resilience as you went through the pandemic this past few years.  It really has been the collective effort of all of us and I am so proud of what all of our staff, students, families, and community have accomplished to keep our students learning in their classrooms.

This week also marked National School Nurses Day (May 11). Our Registered Nurses are vital to keeping students healthy, and we so appreciate all that you do, especially during some particularly challenging times for public health the last two years. I also want to recognize our administrative assistants (Administrative Professionals Day was April 27), our nutrition services personnel (School Lunch Hero Day was May 6), and our Communications Department (today is School Communicators Day). There are so many days to keep up with because we have so many amazing people, positions, and departments that keep our schools running smoothly. I want you to know how much I appreciate each and every one of you!

Lunch Lizard

The Lunch Lizard is gearing up for its eighth summer of serving free meals to any child 18 or younger. The Lunch Lizard program, which includes both food service at select school sites and the mobile food truck routes in neighborhoods with the greatest need, will run June 6-July 28. Route schedules are posted at bit.ly/lunchlizard.

State of our Schools

Last May, we began the tradition of sending students home with a printed State of our Schools report. While the State of our Schools reports in the fall and winter were only sent out in an electronic format, the spring edition will again be printed. Students will be bringing home their copies soon - please be sure to take a look at the great information about D51 programs, plans, and accomplishments. You can also find a copy here on our website, d51schools.org, and copies will be distributed May 22 and May 25 in the Daily Sentinel and the Daily Sentinel Weekly, respectively.
