Weekly Superintendent Update, Feb. 25
I hope you all had a fun, restful three-day weekend! Last Saturday, I enjoyed walking in the Lions Club parade with the D51 Foundation. The Lions have been very generous with our district, providing several grants to schools and programs over the years. I am so thankful for their commitment to our students and staff!
Looking ahead, I hope you can all cheer on the D51 boys and girls basketball teams that have playoff games this weekend. Good luck as well to our Mock Trial students, who will be competing this weekend in the Western Slope Regional. Kudos also to our HOSA Future Health Professionals students that just returned home from the State Leadership Conference!
Winter Weather Delays and Cancellations
Given yesterday’s one-hour delay, it’s timely to provide some reminders about weather delays and cancellations. Our crews are up early checking roads across the valley whenever poor conditions are in the forecast. Decisions about whether to delay the start of the school day or cancel school altogether are typically made by 5 a.m. and no later than 6 a.m. If students are already in school and a decision is made to dismiss early, parents will be notified as soon as possible after a decision is made.
Once the decision is made, a call, text, and email are recorded and sent to all families and staff. Please be sure your school has up-to-date contact information for you and that you have signed up for text messages by texting the word “YES” to 67587.
Superintendent Transition
I am excited to congratulate my assistant superintendent., Dr. Brian Hill, on the finalization of his superintendent contract this week. As I retire this June, I am pleased to have Dr. Hill be the next superintendent of D51. He has impressed us from the start since coming to D51 from Austin Independent School District in 2019, and I know he will continue to make District 51 an excellent place for students and staff to grow, learn, and thrive!
